6 pupils from Moseley School and Sixth Form assisted Mr Philpotts, Pembroke House Pastoral Manager, in his work for Acorns by volunteering as stewards on the Acorns Santa Run in December 2016.
The Acorns Santa Run, which was held at Birmingham’s Cannon Hill park, asks participants to don their Santa suits and run or stroll the 5 or 2k routes with friends, family or colleagues to raise funds for local life limited or life threatened children and their families.
Riyad Al-Ashmali is one of the students who volunteered on the Santa Run and said: “Being passionate about helping the disadvantaged and charity work is the reason I took part in this opportunity, and it also links with the Duke of Edinburgh Award I am doing. On the award we are encouraged to find opportunities that allow us to support good and charitable work. Assisting Mr Phillpotts with his work for Acorns was a great chance to do this.”
Mr Phillpotts and students have been working hard with Acorns over the last few years; highlights include:
- Collecting 300 bags of clothing for the local shops in the last three years.
- Providing 20 pupils to steward the Bubble Rush, at Warwickshire CCG, in June 2017.
- Two A Level students did a week’s work experience at Acorns head office in July 2017.
