Dear Parent / Carers
I hope you and your family are safe and well.
During lockdown, we have continued to teach our students through live lessons and Directed Study using Microsoft Teams. This has allowed students to continue to be taught by their class teachers, complete, submit work online, and get feedback from their teachers regularly. When students return to school, we will continue to use Microsoft Teams to set students’ independent study, catch up work and allow teachers and students to communicate about their learning through Microsoft Teams.
The lockdown has transformed how teachers and students will work together in the future at Moseley School and Sixth Form and we are encouraging all our parents/guardians to make an investment in their child’s future and purchase a laptop or Chromebook device which students will use from year 7-13.
We wanted to provide some guidance to parents on the type of device your child would benefit from having access to at home. Below we outline two affordable options available at leading local and online retailers.
A Google Chromebook is an affordable option, which can support all your child’s online learning needs. A Chromebook can be purchased for around £200 and will be utilised throughout their time at Moseley School and Sixth Form and beyond.
Alternatively, a Windows laptop offers a more flexible option, which can facilitate all your child’s online learning needs. A Windows laptop can be purchased for around £300 and will utilised throughout their time at Moseley School and Sixth Form and beyond.
When choosing a device here are some recommendations for the device specification:
- Minimum of 4GB RAM.
- Minimum of a 32GB storage.
- Consider the size of the screen something between 11 to 15 inches
These devices can be sourced through a number of retailors. Currently Curry’s PC World and Amazon have a wide range of choice with some good discount offers.
It is important to recognise that we do not believe that digital devices will replace the teaching that takes place in our school, but we believe it will certainly enhance and support your child’s education.
