Amended arrival and departure times / Covid19 safety measures

8/9/2020

Dear Parents/ Carers,

It has been wonderful to welcome back all of our students this week. It has been magnificent to see the students’ positive attitudes and willingness to follow the new guidance and keep our school community safe. Whilst we recognise that it is still difficult we are working hard to ensure the students catch up on missed learning. We thank you for all of your support in the past few months. If you have any concerns please do contact your year teams to discuss how we can assist.

During this first week, we have been constantly reviewing our procedures and processes to ensure the safety of both students and staff, and in light of this we have made some changes following feedback to ensure these are robust. The below changes will take effect from Wednesday 9th September 2020.

It is very important that all students attend school daily and on time, ready to start learning promptly. Students should be wearing their full school uniform and coat hoods should be down unless it is raining whilst on the school site.

Year 7

All year 7 students must enter the school still through Gate A. We will be opening the gates at 8.20am allowing the students on to their gravelled area where they should wait sensibly following our 3Rs of Ready, Respectful and Responsible. They will not be allowed onto the school site before this time. They should then make their way to their classrooms from 8.30am for an 8.45am start. Students should not be waiting on the pavement outside of the gates before this time. Year 7 students will be leaving the site at 2.50pm from Gate A. Please can you ensure that you collect and students promptly.

Year 8

All year 8 students must enter still through Gate A. We will be opening the gates to year 8 students at 8.40am, they will not be allowed onto the school site before this time, they should follow our 3Rs of Ready, Respectful and Responsible, when making their way to their classrooms for an 8.55am start. Students should not be waiting on the pavement outside of the gates before this time. Year 8 students will be leaving the school site at 3pm from Gate A.

Year 9

All year 9 students must enter still through Gate B. Year 9 students must enter the car park area and wait at the pedestrian entrance outside Science which will be opened at 8.20am, they will not be allowed onto the school site before this time, they should follow our 3Rs of Ready, Respectful and Responsible, and wait in the quad area (formerly girls area) before making their way to their classrooms for an 8.45am start. Students should not be waiting on the pavement outside of the gates or on our neighbour’s properties (including front gardens) before this time. Year 9 students will be leaving the school site at 3pm from Gate B.

Year 10

All year 10 students must enter the school still through Gate C. We will be opening the outer gates at 8.15am and the inner gates at 8.20am allowing the students on to the left hand side of the lower playground. They will not be allowed onto the school site before this time. They should wait there sensibly, following our 3Rs of Ready, Respectful and Responsible, before making their way to their classrooms from 8.30am for an 8.45am start. Students should not be waiting on the pavement outside of the gates before this time. Year 10 students will be leaving the site at 2.50pm.

Year 11

All year 11 students must enter the school still through Gate C. We will be opening the outer gates at 8.15am and the inner gates at 8.20am allowing the students on to the right hand side of the lower playground. They will not be allowed onto the school site before this time. They should wait there sensibly, following our 3Rs of Ready, Respectful and Responsible, before making their way to their classrooms from 8.30am for an 8.45am start. Students should not be waiting on the pavement outside of the gates before this time. Year 11 students will be leaving the site at 3pm.

Sixth Form

Sixth Form students should enter the school site in the nearest gate to their first lesson. This may change daily and students should check their timetable daily. Students will not be allowed on site before 8.20am and should head straight to the sixth form area in advance of their lessons. Students should not be waiting on the pavement outside of the gates before this time. Sixth Form students will be leaving site at 3pm.

Dropping off and collecting students

If you are dropping off or collecting students, could we please request that you either arrange to meet at a point away from the school or wait for them further along the pavement in front of the cricket pavilion. This will ensure that the area does not become congested, other students can safely leave the school site and Covid-19 2 metre distances are maintained between families. Could we remind you that guidance is that students should be walking or cycling to school and that private cars should only be used when absolutely necessary. We ask that all parents/carers follow the Highway Code and Please do not cause a disturbance to our neighbours.

What if my child is unwell?

This winter will pose challenges for determining whether illness experienced is the symptoms of Covid-19, winter flu, or a general cold. Where a child has mild cold symptoms they should continue to attend school.

The main symptoms of Covid-19 are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

If your child presents with one or more of these symptoms they must not attend school and should remain at home. We urge all parents to access a test as quickly as possible and to inform the school of the results.

In line with government guidance, a child presenting in school with symptoms will be isolated in a safe space away from other students while we contact family to get them collected from school.

We recommend that families then arrange for a test for a child with symptoms. Further details will be provided to families who are affected by this.

What should we do if someone in our household/bubble has Covid-19 symptoms?

If a student has any of the above listed symptoms they should not attend school and a Covid-19 test should be arranged ASAP.

NHS guidance states:

  • Stay at home if you have symptoms
  • If you are getting a test because you have symptoms, you and anyone you live with must stay at home until you get your result.
  • Anyone in your support bubble must also stay at home.

Follow the link if you need to arrange a Coronovirus test: Arrange Coronavirus test

Please remember that students must not return to school if they have recently returned to the UK from a country that is on the UK’s quarantine list, until they have fulfilled the full 14 day self-isolation period; if you are unsure of which countries this applies to, please refer to the Government’s Foreign Travel Advice: Foreign travel advice

As with all absences please call the school before 8.45am on the day on 0121 566 6444

extension 1. If you can’t get through please leave a message on the voicemail.
