Dear Parents and Carers

End of School Year – Wednesday 21st July

We will be closing by year group on Wednesday 21st July at 12 noon. Free School Meal lunches will be available for students to collect before they leave school site.

  • Year 10 – via Gate C.
  • Year 9 – via Gate C.
  • Year 8 – via Gate A.
  • Year 7 – via Gate A.
  • Sixth Form – via Gate A.

Please ensure that you remind students that they are wearing their school uniform and therefore representing the school and to ensure that they behave accordingly.

Eid will this year be taking place in the last week of the school term. Can we please remind you that you are allowed only one day absence from school to celebrate. You do not need to contact the absence line to inform us, however the pastoral teams will be in contact with families should you have more than one day off from school. Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating.

Sports Days

Our Sports Days are taking place this week and we will be announcing our overall house champions at the end of this week. Our students have shown wonderful sportsman like behaviour this week that all parents should be proud of. They have cheered and supported their fellow classmates throughout all of their events. Results will be here at the end of the week: Sports Day results 2021

Thank you to Mr McTiernan and all of the staff involved for organising and supporting with making this a great success.

FSM Vouchers

For those entitled to Free School Meals, Birmingham City Council are again supporting families through the holiday and issuing a £60 voucher to spend at local supermarkets. We will be in touch with details of this to FSM families next week via text message.

Charity Uniform Sale

We are planning on holding a uniform collection to provide good quality second-hand uniform to children in all year groups. Given the recent impact on the economy, we are aware that there will be families who may find purchasing new uniform difficult and this service will support them as well as raising some money for our chosen school charities.

The items we hope to provide will include the following:

  • Moseley School Blazers
  • Jumpers
  • School shirts
  • Skirts
  • Moseley Ties
  • Trousers
  • Moseley PE kit
  • Shoes.
  • Trainers.

If you have any good quality items of uniform that you are able to donate, please could you bring them, washed and in a sealed carrier bag, to the main reception at gate A. You will find a large container marked donated uniform to put these in.

We will send out details of the charity sale in due course, thank you in anticipation for any help you can give.

Prepared for September

Uniform suppliers become increasingly busy in August and the start of September so please ensure that you give yourself plenty of time to prepare your child for the start of the new school year.

In order for your child to be able to successfully complete learning tasks in school they need to bring the correct equipment with them to school every day. Before the start of term, please take time to ensure your child has the right equipment and a suitable school bag to carry books and materials to and from school.

A full list of uniform, PE kit and equipment can be found on our website here: School Uniform

PE kit

Every student in every year group is expected to wear full school uniform or PE kit at all times, including in their final years, even if they have outgrown it. Please ensure your child has the correct uniform items at all times. If you require assistance, please contact your child’s Pastoral Manager.

Results Days

Year 13 results day will be on Tuesday August 10th. Students can collect results between 8am and 10am. They need to come to gate A between those times where they will then be directed to the relevant area. Can students please make sure that they attend on their own, we will not be allowing anyone on site who is not collecting their own results.

Staff will be on hand to help and support with any advice and guidance including any clearing questions.

Year 11 results day will be on Thursday 12th August. Students will be e-mailed their results along with information about careers and where to access information about sixth form and college.

Further information will be sent to individual students regarding enrolment for our Sixth Form. This will take place on an individual basis and students will be given a time spread out over the day or another day if unable to make the 12th.

Standards and Expectations

At Moseley we expect students to follow the 3Rs Ready, Respectful, and Responsible in their pursuit of excellence in character and scholarship.

  • Respectful – A respectful student is proud to be a member of Moseley School and values their time at school, their education, the environment and the people around them.
  • Responsible – A responsible student is always very motivated and works well independently and in a team. They contribute to lessons and use their initiative.
  • Ready to learn – A student who is ready to learn rarely has any time off school. They are well organised and plan their time to ensure that they are not late and that they bring the right equipment and books each day.

We believe every child has the potential to achieve greatness and exceed their wildest dream through our RAISE Values. From September we will be focusing attention on our school values:

Effective communicators

We believe these are the values that will bring your child success, not only in their education, but in life beyond school. Parents have a huge part to play in supporting their child’s education. Please can you take time to talk to your child about school and their learning. We will be providing parents and carers with increasing levels of supporting materials from September to help you with this.

Our home school agreement is automatically signed by parents when their child arrives to Moseley School and makes it very clear what we expect not only from students, but staff and parents as well. A copy can be found at https://www.moseley.bham.sch.uk/code-of-conduct/

September plans

In September we have planned a staggered start to the year. Each year group has a specific and very important programme to follow. They will all prepare for learning and development in the year ahead with key lessons, development of independence, a focus on ethos, character and personal development, essential assessments and learning new routines. In line with the requirement on schools to conduct lateral flow tests we also have a COVID testing programme which sits alongside this planning – detail about this is in the COVID section. It is important that students attend all days and times for their year group as listed.

COVID measures over the summer

As you will have seen, Birmingham remains an area of enhanced support and we encourage you to stay safe, continue with good ventilation and social distancing measures designed to reduce any further spread of COVID.

The Delta variant presents very differently, please see details in the graphic

We have a range of useful information and support for families.

All of our information about COVID, testing and reporting positive cases is here: Covid, Testing & reporting information

Once you have informed the NHS Test and Trace about a positive test for a student, please also let us know as soon as possible so that we can keep track of numbers of cases. Contact tracing will be done by the NHS over the holiday period, with support from school if required.

A range of information and resources to support families around a range of subject areas, with links to activities, charities and support is here: Useful links during the coronavirus

We will send you updated guidance before we return in September.

However, if your child tests positive we ask you to let us know immediately by completing the form here:

We hope you have a wonderful well deserved rest over the next six weeks and we look forward to welcoming you back in September for hopefully a full year onsite.

Yours sincerely

Mr A Bate
